Meet Shruti bhatnagar
About
Shruti Bhatnagar represents Maryland District 18 on the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) and serves on the Executive Committee of the Maryland Democratic Party Central Committee and Maryland AAPI Diversity Leadership Council. First elected in 2022, she is running for re-election to continue strengthening the party’s grassroots power and has received several endorsements listed here.
Shruti has over 25 years of leadership experience as a community advocate in Montgomery County and Maryland. She got involved with the Democratic Party by knocking on doors, making phone calls, participating in voter registration drives and as a polling site volunteer to get Democrats elected up and down the ballot.
Shruti has been a member of MD District 18 Caucus since being appointed to be a precinct leader for her neighborhood polling site. For more than a decade, she has been a driving force in the Caucus, serving in leadership as both Chair and Vice Chair. She organized several initiatives for outreach to connect with residents from the diverse community, engage voters, host fundraising drives for the Democratic Party, recruit new precinct leaders and volunteers for the polling site, and provide trainings.
In 2019 while still serving as Chair of the Caucus, Shruti was appointed Co-Chair of the Montgomery County Precinct Organization, the entity composed of volunteers appointed by the Democratic Party to serve as precinct leaders in over 250 precincts of Montgomery County. Precincts are the neighborhood-sized areas for each polling site.
As Chair of the Montgomery County Precinct Organization for six years, Shruti led the efforts to organize, train and mobilize hundreds of volunteers across Montgomery County and all nine legislative districts to build a strong Democratic presence at the polling sites, and for voter protection.
In 2022, Shruti was elected to the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee as a representative of District 18.
Currently, Shruti is the Co-Chair of the MCDCC Student Member Committee, where she mentors future leaders in strategic planning and outreach.
Her accomplishments include being the:
- Lead Organizer of the 2017 Women’s March.
- Recipient of the 2022 "Women Making History" Award
- Recipient of the 2021 "Young Democrat for Life" Award.
- Alum of Leadership Montgomery, Emerge Maryland, and the Emerge America bootcamp.
Shruti has a breadth of experience which adds to her diverse perspective. She brings the vision and commitment needed to build a "bigger tent" for our democracy. Shruti doesn't just talk the talk—she has the commitment and experience to get the job done!
